Providing assistance by supporting Senior Meals on Wheels has indisputable humanitarian and financial benefits.

Senior Meals on Wheels provides more than just a meal. A society can be judged by how it treats the most vulnerable among us. Meals on Wheels is one of the most effective models in America. It enables seniors to remain healthy, independent and living at home. Avoiding less desirable alternatives such as hospitalization and nursing home placements. The geographic mobility of our society often spreads families far from one another, but we still want to take care of those who once took care of us. The nutritious meal, friendly visit and safety check Senior Meals on Wheels provides helps seniors cope with the three biggest threats of aging: hunger, isolation and loss of independence. It also enables their families to sleep better knowing that Senior Meals on Wheels is keeping a watchful eye over their aging loved ones and raising a red flag if something doesn’t seem right.

We can all be proud of supporting our seniors.  Over the past 20 years the senior population has grown by 34% while federal funding has decreased 18%. The fastest growing segment of the US population is aged 75+ and nationally 9.3 million seniors struggle with hunger.  30% of our program is unfunded. The balance must come from donations. We must rely on other sources of funding to address the need, including individuals and corporate donations, sponsorship’s and grants. By leveraging existing funding, augmented by generous donations from those in our community we all save billions of dollars a year in tax dollars by keeping seniors from needing more costly nursing home alternatives.
